MARICHYASANA TWO

marichyasana 2:
sage twist pose or marichi's pose= ray of light

how to get in and out of the asana:
1. Begin in Dandasana.
2.. Sit on the floor, with your back against and imaginary wall and you feet vertical and pointed upward.
3.Bend one knee to the chest, still maintaining a straight back.
4. Rotate your torso to your knee, and stretch your closest arm upwards so that your body may fold more.
5. Bend the other knee inward.
5. Place the risen arm around your bent knee and the other behind your back.
6.Link the two hands behind your back, and hold for five breaths.
7.  Unwind, then return to Dandasana.

In this pose you will need to soften your back or release all the held tension.
Actions involved in this asana would be, folding your back, dropping the crown of your head, rolling your shoulders back, stretching and clasping of hands, and contracting one or both of your legs.

Benefits/Effects of Marichyasana:
by stretching your body and contracting it, this pose
- spine and shoulders are stretched
-eases your mind
- exercises the following: liver, kidney, intestines
- assists with digestion
-improves stomach organs and their disfunctions
(excess flatulence, and constipation)

Position awareness:
I feel very focused yet relaxed. I also feel that when i stretch, it opens up the flow of my body's energy. My prana. Even in such a position, the sage twist allows me to practice letting go, because there are so many body parts involved in marichyasana.
